Aggie Reunion 2014, Boston, MA

Faculty, Students, Alumnus and Colleagues of the Statistics Department gathered at the annual Aggie Reunion on Monday, August 4, 2014 during the 2014 Joint Statistical Meetings held in Boston, Massachusetts.

Several annual awards, honors and presentations were announced during the departmental address including, Promotions to Associate Professor with Tenure for Dr. Lan Zhou and Dr. Huiyan Sang;  New Faculty, Dr. Hwa Chi Liang; Retirements for Dr. James Calvin and Dr. Ellen Toby.

Former Student news included an 82 acre property being named in honor of Dr. Lee Smith and his wife Eva, at Texas State University. Dr. Tanya Garcia was recognized for being named the first statistician to receive a Huntington’s Disease Society of America Human Biology Fellowship. Dr. Jane Harvill was honored with the 2014 H.O. Hartley Award .

Student awards and recognitions included the 2014 Anant M. Kshirsagar Fellowship has been awarded to Kejun He, Shiyuan He, Donghyuk Lee, and Raanju Sundararajan. Kejun He was awarded the Emanuel Parzen Graduate Research Fellowship. Jingnan Xue was named the 2014 William S. Connor Award recipient.

12th Man honors were given to Dr. Fred Dahm and Mrs. Marilyn Randall for their tireless dedication to graduate advising.  They worked closely together for many successful years and both Dr. Dahm has stepped down from graduate advising and Marilyn retired from Texas A&M. Their leadership and guidance throughout these years have been deeply appreciated.

Additionally, the Statistics Graduate Student Association showed their sincere appreciation for Marilyn by presenting her with a signed group photo for her tireless hours of guidance to them. Marilyn was honored with a reception that included family and colleagues in September. Happy retirement!
