I approached Panorama Point via I-80, Exit 401 in Pine Bluffs, WY and then following county roads 164, 203, 6 and 5 to the beginning of ranch road at the border of Nebraska and Colorado. The sign for Weld County (CO) Road 111 is within 30 feet of the ranch road.
I was concerned about getting to this highpoint with the recent snow that the area had received and the number of unpaved, gravel county roads I would have to drive on to get there. Fortunately, I was able to get to the ranch road before encountering any significant snow on the roads. I actually drove across the cattle guard and realized that there was snow and ice on the ranch road before backing out (my wagon is rear-wheel drive). My car has experience in Pennsylvania with snow, and has never gotten stuck, but I wasn't about to take a chance being at least 10 miles away from anyone who could help me and an hour from my last mobile phone signal. So, I decided to walk the ranch road after seeing the walk is only .3 miles to the summit. So I put on my winter druthers and set out down the ranch road. To make a short story long, the walk in took nearly an hour with wind chill temperatures in the teens. After getting back to the car from the summit, I reread my guidebook to find that the walk was actually 1.3 miles instead of .3 miles. Nevertheless, I bagged the highpoint while freezing my ass off and stepping in bison shit and then I made my way to beautiful (and cold) Scottsbluff, Nebraska for the night.
