Highest Point in Missouri
May 16, 2004 (My 18th Highpoint)
After taking out Magazine Mountain the previous day I made my way towards the Show Me State
and my second of four highpoints on the road trip. I took US-67 from just north of Little
Rock to Fredericktown, MO and then state roads 72 and 21 to county road CC in Iron County.
The drive from Poplar Bluff to Fredericktown goes through the Mark Twain National Forest
which is a nice drive despite the several slow-moving RV's.
The hike is straightforward; the hike from the parking lot to the summit is less than a
half-mile and is on a sidewalk. There is no view from the summit, although there is an
overlook on the way to the parking lot and a lookout tower if one takes a left at the fork
on county road CC. I didn't visit the tower.
