DRISKILL MOUNTAIN - 535 FT.
Highest Point in Louisiana
May 19, 2003 (My 7th Highpoint)

Driskill Mountain was my third highpoint in three days after hitting the highpoints of Alabama and Mississippi in the previous two days. I got off I-20 at exit 69 and proceeded on state roads 147, 797, and 507 to the Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church. The church is in the most rural of areas - after leaving the town of Arcadia, I could count the number of cars and houses on one hand during the twenty minute drive.

Just as I was starting my hike, two other highpointers were on their way back from the summit. They were from Ohio, but I didn't catch either of their names - nice folks. The hike to the highpoint was 1.8 miles according Don Holmes's book, and it was a pleasant hike. The book by Mr. Holmes was very accurate for what could have been a confusing hike with false summits and trail splits. There was not much of a view from the actual highpoint as most of the trail and surrounding area is covered in trees. It was a beautiful day with temperature in the mid-80s.

I'm making a "7".
