MOUNT SUNFLOWER - 4,039 FT.
Highest Point in Kansas
March 13, 2005 (My 27th Highpoint)

Mount Sunflower was the second highpoint of my spring break trip. Starting the morning drive from the Blue Spruce Motel in Lamar, CO I took US 385 to US 40 to a gravel road that lies less than two miles inside the Kansas-Colorado border. Taking this gravel road to another gravel road led me to the summit.

The temperature at the highpoint was a cool 32 degrees with some pretty hefty winds. I stayed for 10 minutes which gave me enough time to take 3 pictures and sign the register and then get the heck out of there. I felt compelled to give my vista cruiser a cameo appearance due to its endurance and reliability through the early part of my trip. After leaving the summit, I headed to Burlington, CO on my way to Panorama Point, the highpoint of Nebraska.

Sometimes it's cold outside in Kansas.
