Hawkeye Point was my final highpoint of my Spring Break trip. I took I-90 east from Sioux Falls, SD to Worthington, MN and then MN/IA 60 west to the gravel road where the Sterler farm is.
I had a little bit of drama on my drive to Hawkeye Point - I got a late start in Bismarck so I had to rush to get to the highpoint before sundown. In my haste, I came upon a slow-moving truck in Worthington, MN and as he slowed, I attempted to pass him only to have him very nearly turn into the side of my car. No sooner had I averted the accident than I looked in my rearview mirror to see the truck driver had changed his mind and decided to come after me. So I saw that he was following me quite closely, I pulled over to the side of the road, as did he. I quickly stopped my car and walked back to his truck parked stopped behind me and apologized to him for what happened. After words were exchanged, he decided against taking my tag number to the police, we shook hands and I was on my way to Hawkeye Point.
Despite trying to phone the Sterlers twice and knocking on the door upon my arrival, I was not able to contact them. So I proceeded to the cattle trough where the highpoint is just beyond their barn. I think this is the first highpoint that I forgot to register at. Anyway, I took a few photos and was on my way back to Sioux Falls, SD to stay for the night. Here is the breathtaking view from the top of Hawkeye Point.
