I hit the highpoint of Georgia after doing South Carolina's Sassafras Moutain earlier in the day. I came via US 64 West, SR 17/75 South, and then to SR 180. It's about a ten minute drive to SR 180-Spur which is the road to the highpoint. The road to Brasstown Bald on State Road 180-Spur is quite the steep and windy one (in old car terms) but, fortunately, it is paved. Another road note: if you're looking to make good time coming to or from Brasstown Bald, avoid US 64. It's a beautiful drive, but narrow and windy.
There is a short trail to the observation tower on top of the mountain (one mile, roundtrip), which was steeper than I expected. On this particular day, there was no one else at the tower, and the stairway to the observation deck was locked. It was foggy on this day, spoiling any chance of a good view of the area. It was about 55 degrees on top of the mountain with light wind.
