Java StataQuest Lab #1
by Henrik Schmiediche
The Department of Statistics at Texas
A&M University uses StataQuest together with a series of Laboratories
created by Dr. H. J. Newton
to teach statistical concepts to students. StataQuest is a software package
written by Stata and marketed by Duxberry
Press. It is based on Stata 4.0 a software package for Statistical Data
Analysis. This web page was created to show that the StataQuest laboratories
can be implemented in Java. As a
demonstration we implement the first of the StataQuest Laboratories (click
here to
see what the "original" StataQuest lab running under Windows 95 looks like).
Click on the button below to start the Java StataQuest lab. Note that
you must be running a Java enabled browser to see the button below. Netscape
3 or Internet Explorer for Windows 95 or NT is Java enabled.
Under Netscape4 the x-axis labels are messed up---I need to investigate
why. Under certain environments (eg. Win95 with Netscape 3) the lab will
not function the first time you start it up. It does work the second time.
The web page with instructions for this lab is available by clicking here
or by clicking on the the "help" button within the Lab (while this page
is displayed in the browser). Please note that this lab was not designed
to fully showcase the capabilities of Java. We where trying to duplicate
the look and feel of an existing lab written in StataQuest.
This concept lab was sponsored partly by an "Electronic Learning Incentives
Program Grant from the Academy for Advanced Telecommunications & Learning
Technologies."
