After Maximum Likelihood, What? Remarks on Econometric Applications to Income Distribution Trends and Frontier Modeling
ABSTRACT: We introduce the L2E criterion for fitting mixture distributions and discuss some of its properties. The criterion may be extended to fitting general models. Application to a series of yearly income samples provides a concrete example. A more unusual application involves estimating a frontier function where the data are assumed to be noisy.
