- Are there any residential requirements?
At this time, we are only accepting students located in the Americas. For more information, see our Departmental Policy on Registration in Graduate Statistics Classes for Online Learning.
- How are the statistics distance learning courses delivered?
Please read our statement to potential students.
- Do I ever have to come to campus?
No, unless you want to walk the stage at graduation.
- Does the diploma say "online" on it?
No. You complete the same master's coursework as you would if you were on campus and receive the same degree.
- What is the university's school code?
The school code for submitting GRE and TOEFL scores is 6003.
- What is your accreditation?
Texas A&M University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award degrees at the bachelors’, masters’, doctoral and professional levels.

Questions about the Master's Degree
- What are the prerequisites?
You need two semesters of calculus and a knowledge of matrix algebra.
- What is the length of the program?
The MS degree is a 36 credit hour non-thesis program.
- What are the recommended GRE scores for a candidate to be accepted in the MS program?
There is not a set cutoff point. The GRE scores are used in the overall evaluation. The students accepted so far have all had GRE scores greater than 155.
- What is the cost of the program?
Tuition and fees for a three hour course run approximately $1200-$1500 for in-state students and $2000-$2400 for out-of-state students.
- How do I apply?
Please go to the Application Process page. Do not use the State of Texas Common Application.
- How many hours can I transfer?
You can transfer up to 12 hours but please see the Transfer Fact Worksheet for more information.
- What are the hardware and software requirements?
PC with Windows XP or Vista. Version must be better than Home or Home Premium

- Is there a thesis option?
The thesis option is not available for the internet degree.
- Is there a qualifying exam?
Students take the Master's Diagnostic Examination after 18 hours of course work. See the Master's Diagnostic Examination portion of the Degree Plan page for more information.
- Is Financial Aid available?**
Yes, financial aid is available for the Online Master's Degree Program**. To be considered for financial aid, please submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Our school code is 003632. The financial aid office will receive your FAFSA and evaluate your eligibility for aid. Graduate students must be enrolled “half-time” for financial aid purposes. At Texas A&M University, “half-time” is defined by the Office of the Registrar as four credit hours in the fall & spring, and three hours during the summer term. TEXAS PUBLIC EDUCATION GRANT (TPEG)
The Texas Public Education Grant (TPEG) is a program administered by the State of Texas to provide assistance to students with financial need, seeking a first bachelor's degree, graduate degree or professional degree. This is a grant, and it does not have to be repaid.

The International Texas Public Education Grant is awarded to international students only. The International TPEG does not have to be repaid.

TEXAS AGGIE GRAD GRANT
The Texas Aggie Graduate Grants are need-based awards (need is determined by Scholarships & Financial Aid) for Texas residents. Each student may receive up to $1,500 per semester in the fall and spring and $750 per semester in the Summer, with a maximum of $3,000 per year. The eligibility requirements for the Texas Aggie Graduate Grant are as follows:
- You must be a Texas resident.
- You must have completed and submitted a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid – available at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov).
- You must NOT currently be employed as a graduate assistant.
You must NOT be the holder of a fellowship or major scholarship.
- You must be enrolled in a degree-seeking graduate program at Texas A&M (G7 or G8 status) or a graduate certificate program at the Bush School of Government and Public Service.
- You must be enrolled at least half-time (4 hours for fall and spring; 3 hours for a 10-week summer session and 3 hours for a 5-week summer session).

- What are the prerequisites?
Each course, including the courses for a certificate, have specific prerequisites. See the Courses page for details.
- How many hours are required to get a certificate?
At least four (4) courses of three (3) hours each or a total of 12 credit hours.
- Is this an official certificate?
Yes, this is a transcripted certificate. This means that you get a transcript which shows the courses you have taken and that you received an official TAMU certificate.

Questions about AP Statistics Training
- When is the AP Stat training offered?
The on-site workshop and associated live online portion is offered in the summer. (Summer 2010: July 19th to the 23rd).

There is also a self-paced version that is based on the summer workshop and is made available from August to the next July.
- How does this "at your own pace" work, and do I still get a certificate?
We recorded the live, summer session and are making these videos available. You can watch as many, or as few, videos as your schedule allows. There are short quizzes associated with each video which intend to verify that you watched the video. You must get a 90% or better on the quizzes to receive a certificate. You will be allowed to re-submit quizzes to increase your score.
- Is the program endorsed by the College Board?
Our Summer Institutes (the on-campus workshop and its live online counterpart) are endorsed. The College Board does not evaluate, endorse or market any 100% online institutes due to the range of different proposed approaches for converting face-to-face summer institutes to the web. However, we deliver the exact same materials and aim to replicate the on-campus workshop experience as closely as possible.
- What are the computer/software requirements?
MS Word and PowerPoint for notes, etc.

- Can I receive academic credit for the AP Stat training?
Yes. When it is offered, you must be admitted as a non-degree student and be registered for STAT 667. This option is only available for those participating in the live summer sessions. Normal tuition and fees for a 3-hour course apply.
- Can STAT 667 count towards a degree or certificate?
STAT 667 will not count towards the Masters Degree but it can be counted towards a Certificate.
