Homeworks / Exams
Homework Submission
Homeworks will need to be in PDF format to upload into a course management site we use for homeworks and exams.
There are several options for getting the homework into a PDF:
- Scan the pages into PDF using a scanner.
- Use a word processor and then print to PDF using PDFcreator or similar PDF printer software.
- Use a fax-to-PDF service (you pay the cost of the service from third party).
Exams
Each exam will be proctored (see section below). For each exam, you will need access to a printer to print the exam and then scanner or fax machine (if using fax-to-PDF option) for submitting the exam. Exams will be downloaded from a course management site we use for homeworks and exams. The exams will be password-protected, with your proctor receiving the password prior to the exam. The completed exam will then be uploaded into the same location it was downloaded from. Completed exams will need to be in PDF format for upload.
There are several options for getting the exam into a PDF:

The copy of the exam that is uploaded must be readable. If it is not readable or you fail to upload it in the time allotted, your next exam score will be used for this exam. If this happens on the Final Exam, you will get an I (Incomplete) for the class and take the Final Exam the next semester.
Each exam has a time limit, and these limits vary by the class. There is an additional buffer allowed for printing and uploading. The exam will be available during a 24 hour window. It is your responsibility to schedule your proctor during this window.
Exam Proctor
The Department of Statistics at Texas A&M University, which has been offering the Masters of Science in Statistics since 1963, has a reputation of producing high quality graduate students. In order to maintain the quality and integrity of the program for both on campus and distance students, the Department requires a proctor for students who take exams at a distance. Thus on-campus and distance students are treated in a similar manner.
If you are taking your exams outside of the classroom, you will need to designate a person as the proctor for the exam. The person you select as a proctor must be certified by the Department of Statistics to be a viable proctor. To be certified, the proctor must submit a proctor form. You must have a proctor form submitted by the second week into the semester. You will need access to a printer to print the exam and then scanner or fax machine (if using fax-to-PDF option) for submitting the exam.
The proctor will have the following duties:
- Code word to access exam will be sent to proctor the day before the exam.
- The proctor will guarantee that student uses only the specified materials during the exam.
- The proctor will terminate the exam after the allocated time and fill in start and stop times on cover page of exam.
- The proctor will either scan the exam into a PDF or watch as the student scans to a PDF (see Exams above).
- Students will not be allowed to keep the exam. The exam must be returned to the proctor.
Examples of persons who may be designated as a proctor:
- Supervisor at your place of employment
- Faculty/staff member of a university or community college
- Employee of a testing center
- A responsible person not related to you or taking this course
