As AP* Statistics has rapidly become one of the most popular AP exams, many mathematics teachers with relatively little statistics experience have been charged with taking on AP Statistics courses.
The online AP Statistics teacher training program at Texas A&M University is a rigorous program designed to quickly bring new statistics teachers up to speed on a variety of basic statistical concepts and methods. It can also give seasoned statistics teachers additional resources.
How does the "at your own pace" program work?
We recorded our live 2009 Summer Institute, led by College Board consultant Daren Starnes, and are making these videos available. You can watch as many, or as few, videos as your schedule allows. There are short quizzes associated with each video which intend to verify that you watched the video. You must get a 90% or better on the quizzes to receive a certificate. You will be allowed to re-submit quizzes to increase your score.
The lectures cover topics from the course syllabus, demonstrate various computer software, and review the AP exam. Starnes' presentations are supplemented by faculty lectures. The program draws on the resources of our Department, one of the largest of its kind.
Our online mentoring focuses on developing solid pedagogical techniques which you can implement in your AP Statistics course.
